Overnight drive brings me to just short of Penrith and waking to the sound of rain this campervan morning. A thick, thick mist obscures everything, but the closest view. As Nanette Avery once wrote :
“ Mist in the morning is Earth’s morning breath…”
The sounds of crows, lots of crows and the feint sound of a Robin or two emerge from the nothingness. A ghostly background hum of motorway traffic, but nothing to really write home about. An early morning chill, accentuated by an occasional gust means a retreat inside, to witness from behind glass. It feels good to be on the road again. An easy journey and light traffic, something to be said for travelling on a Sunday evening of a holiday weekend. The start of a month away on the road, experiences, friendships, travel and of course drumming. As Alan De Botton once said, we travel that :
“ We might return from our journeys with a collection of small unfêted but life-enhancing thoughts. “
And of course a good handful of experiences as John Muir wrote of his travels :
“Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.”
The excitement is palpable, if you couldn’t tell. Onwards and I look forward to you coming along. Lovely days people.
“Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt.” John Muir.
