Time and Grey.

A wild breezy night, the van buffeted by strong winds, occasional rain showers and this campervan morning remains much the same. Camped in the lee of some sand dunes on Norwick beach makes little difference, its fierce and swirly. All you can hear is the noise of the wind and crashing waves. The sky a light white cloud base, moves solidly eastwards. Yesterday a weather change, having enjoyed lovely sunshine for the last couple of days a shift to grey. Fifty shades or more of grey, an island of grey skies, a multitude of shades. Foreboding and stormy, light and airy, retuning to mysterious and dark. The wind relentless at times, blowing the shades around the sky in ever-changing light and shape. There was something quite beguiling about the colours and shades, throwing different reliefs for standing stones and castle walls. They appeared to grow in menace and stature as the sky shades deepened and swirled about their heads. I always found grey quite bland even bordering on the boring, but not yesterday. It was descriptive, swirling, menacing, magnificent, reflected in the standing stones, the castle, coastline and crofts. It seemed to accompany the mood of visits to Viking Longhouses, ancient standing stones, Brochs, abandoned crofts and Cairns. A day steeped in ancient and social history.

“ Shetland time is slower. There's a saying, that Shetland watches don't show minutes or hours-only years! “ Avalina Kreska.

Walking along the beach this morning being blown around by the strong winds, surrounded by sand and magical grey rock formations. So today and yesterday is dedicated to the magnificence of time and grey. Lovely days people.
