The Muddy Waters of Human Emotion...

Well it’s not too cold, with the merest hint of a breeze this campervan morning. Polka dot skies once more, with a hint of darkness on the edges. What cloud there is is streaked with pinks and oranges. Feet breaking the crust of frost, brushing past bushes sending flurries of frost into the air. The moon again hangs above me as I stalk images. A morning of two halves, so more of a campervan brunch today, out early with camera so not so much writing as walking. It was a braw morning, but it has eased considerably in the last hour or so, down to minus 1. Nice to be out in isolation, nature, the cold and frost before it goes. The writer Jini Reddy the author of Wanderland writes that :

“ There’s an art to the business of wintering. It’s time to revel in the muddier waters of human emotion and hibernate magnificently. It’s not just the trees, shorn of flowers and leaves and berries, who turn inward. “

Time perhaps to reflect on whats gone before and plans to come. I wonder what the art of wintering is now ? My personal one is being out in the cold, sometimes or usually in isolation, carving time, carving images , carving reflections and musings, knowing that the practical side of wintering is looked after. The changing shape of wintering, from the need to provision, stock up, chop wood, hunker down, look after others has meant that for most losing its practical side has meant the emotional side has maybe been lost. The connection with nature, the food chain, stories and culture. I wonder what others art of wintering is ? Lovely days people.

“ When it’s really cold, the snow makes a lovely noise underfoot, and it’s like the air is full of stars.” Katherine May.
