Stop and look around us.

A full on Sunday roar from the far off motorway this campervan morning. There must be a change in the atmospherics or something because it’s loud. Chilly once more so the hot coffee is very welcome, draining away quite quickly as I attempt to keep the wee chill at bay. We appear to have crossed another rubicon, the coffee cooling a lot quicker than it has of late, an early refill maybe required. The sun has just broken over the rooftops so hopefully the heat will return. A robin is close by and calling out to nearby birds. It’s the predator warning call again, rather than any form of song and is answered in the same way. A single gull flys overhead calling out. A few small birds dart here and there, too quick to get a handle on, but the trees on the whole remain empty this morning. Heavy rain has left its mark, twigs and leaves strewn around amongst the usual suburban debris. Dampness in the air and in the nostrils, the feeling of the drying earth in the air. The sky a hazy blue with dashes of white here and there. It’s a special Sunday today, one where the sense of returning urban madness is held in check for a further 24 hours, it’s a bank holiday weekend. A breeze comes from nowhere depositing droplets onto the floor and shimmering leaves enter the soundscape. So self care Sunday today so ensure you do something for you today. A day of recalibration. Nothing really going on, just watching the morning unfurl and that’s ok, putting my attention on my surroundings and listening to the world starting to stir. Kind of doing as Deakin once wrote :

“ There is wilderness everywhere, if we only stop in our tracks and look around us “.

I often marvel at the changes that I see from my suburban spot. No morning is ever the same, no sky is ever replicated, no birdsong or soundscape is ever copied, no matter how many mornings I sit here. Everyone is fresh and new. Every experience to be uncovered for the first time. Every sense to be tested and explored as if for the first time. And so on with the day. Lovely days people.

“ There's a non-existent peace in the uncertain quietness.” Fernando Pessoa.
