Silence and Absorb.

Well the birds are putting in a shift this campervan morning. Stepping outside I am greeted by a myriad of songs, possibly because it’s a wee bit dryer and a wee bit lighter, but they are busy this morning. The grind of modernity once more sits in the background, motorways in the distance and planes overhead. The cloud as yet indistinguishable in the early morning light. There is an occasional breeze to disturb branch and bush, but other than that stillness prevails. All is done and all is safely gathered in, just preparation and the joy of family time to come. I still love these mornings of coffee, reflection, musings, thought ordering and of course more coffee. To sit in relative silence and absorb what nature reveals. There is part of me that struggles with the domination of commercialisation, particularly at this time of year, but I revel in the other part of it, the gathering, the family traditions of theatre, games days, sitting together and talking. As Dickens wrote of Christmas ;

“ The only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow-passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys.”

I count myself lucky that I am surrounded here and around the world by people who live with open hearts and think of others regularly, if you are one of those people thank you for being part of my world. This is one of my favourite parts of one of my favourite seasons, the coming together of friends, family and fellow companions to the grave. So as I sit and the world starts to whirl around me, I am grateful to those that fill my world, I so look forward to connecting with all my fellow passengers. Have a lovely day and a fabulous Christmas.

“ When we keep our silence we gather our power; when we speak we let loose the concentration of quiet reverie.” Bryant McGill.
