Crow Sunday this campervan morning. The air is full of their croaks and cries. I appear to be surrounded by them. A lone Robin is calling the predator signal from the Oak and I must admit I have seen a cat this morning so it’s not far wrong. A couple of Magpies make themselves known chattering between the trees, a few circling gulls passing over on their onward journey. A busy Sunday here under the Oak. The cloud is dense and moves overhead, the light tinged with blue and grey. It’s warm again after a few chilly mornings and a wee hint of wind, brings the merest of chills and sends ripples through the trees. Self care Sunday so do make sure you do something for yourself today. As one of my teachers Parker J Palmer wrote in his great book ‘Let your life Speak’ ;
“ Self-care is never a selfish act - it is simply good stewardship of the only gift I have, the gift I was put on earth to offer others. Anytime we can listen to true self and give the care it requires, we do it not only for ourselves, but for the many others whose lives we touch.”
I would also recommend his books ‘A Hidden Wholeness ‘ and ‘ The Courage to Teach ‘.
A little bit of early morning solitude to start the day and breathe some life into myself. There’s a hint of closeness in the air, a kinda stifled warmth promising change later, or so it feels. Another day of drumming today so some prep required later, but enjoying this morning and reflecting on yesterday’s work. I have been dipping into Albert Miquel on reading and libraries as a means of self care as well as Ros Atkins book on explanations and the clarity of messages. The wonderful Palmer later in his book ‘ Let your life speak ‘ comments that ;
“ One begins the slow walk back to health by choosing each day things that enliven one's selfhood and resisting things that do not.”
I feel that it’s not just self care Sundays that are part of that, but everyday looking for, taking part in and being part of things that enliven yourself and trying to resist things that do not. Lovely days people.
“ As young people, we are surrounded by expectations that may have little to do with who we really are, expectations held by people who are not trying to discern our selfhood but to fit us into slots.” Parker J. Palmer.
