Reading Journeys.

Quite a cool morning this campervan morning, steam rising from hot coffee and the merest hint of breath on air. Everything glistens with the residue of overnight rain, bringing colours into sharp relief. The sky a hazy blue once more, an early morning watery sun bathing oak tops and ash. The sounds of the constant tip tap of droplets of water falling from eaves and leaves onto path and grass. The far off rumble of the motorway and passing distant commuter train. A blackbird appears and flits between trees, the sound of gulls carried on the air. Nature feels quite subdued this morning, really having to concentrate to carve it out. Far off cockerels call the morning into being for some. A squirrel sends cascades of water down to the ground as it scurries around the trees. The week now in full swing and tasks begin to flow and lists begin to shrink and grow as the day passes. Planning todays up and coming drum circles as I sit and also trying to clear those thoughts away to enjoy the present moment. I love reading journeys, where one book, takes you to another book, then to another source and through a single reference a whole world opens up to you. Sometimes disappearing down a rabbit hole, other times revelationary ( If there is such a word ). I came across Jacquetta Hawkins and her book ‘ A Land ‘ (1951 ). She was an archeologist, writer, broadcaster and peace campaigner, her clarion call was to :

“ Contribute something to our understanding of being and the overwhelming beauty and mystery of its manifestations “

Something for us to carry forward this morning. Lovely days people.

“ We are, as a species, finding it increasingly hard to imagine that we are part of something which is larger than our own capacity”. Robert MacFarlane.
