Off the beaten path.

Good morning from Day 59 of being on the road. A bit of a hazy campervan morning after a sweltering overnight heat. A few crows and magpies make themselves known and a smattering of swallows diving around the sky. It’s warm already, the sun clearing the hillsides and time to turn northwards and thoughts of planning the trip home. A journey yesterday from the overnight stay of a few hours northwards to a spa town for some travelling down time and some pre birthday pampering. A beautiful drive through stunning countryside, once again in blistering 37 degree heat. Feeling well at home with the Sunday drivers. Brief stops to soak up the tree lined driveways and lone hilltop buildings of Tuscany. So planning the route home and an easier day today, clearing cleaning and prepping the day away. There is some reluctance in returning, as I am sure there is with everyone who has holidayed or road tripped, but as the wonderful Jack Kornfield said :

“ As surely as there is a voyage away, there is a journey home “

Having planned to stop for a couple of days, a bit of time to spend on reflecting on some of the changes, encounters, travels, exposure to new surroundings and experiences, though there is still another 7 days or so to go. I think our plan of staying away from most of the tourist traps has worked. Well it has for me. Spending some time talking to a lady in a tourist office about the beauty of Italy outside of the cities and towns and there being so much more to see. We have a wee way to travel and around 1100 miles, so at least one more day here chilling and planning before setting out. Lovely days people.
