Morning S(c)ent.

Persistent rain falling on the oak this campervan morning. The rain gathering on leaves and then falling heavily onto the ground and onto me. Shrouded in darkness, the light yet to take shape and thus of course the day. Best guess is heavy cloud, as planes pass over no sign of navigation lights so it must be pretty low. The rain easing, but the breeze continues to send showers of droplets earthwards from the Oak and the neighbouring Ash. The air feels fresh and alive, it’s not cold by any stretch of the imagination, but the coffee is welcome. The birds are yet to wake, so the soundtrack is purely rain and planes. As I write a call of a Tawny Owl in the distance makes my morning. Owl hoots and rain almost a perfect start to the day, though I maybe driven indoors into the van at this rate. Pleased not to have departed to soon, I would have missed the Owl calls. Another day of ‘pause’ yesterday as this stubborn lurgy continues to hamper any progress. Not a bad thing, but really butting up against the culture of need to be productive, especially having cancelled a weekend of work. Really frustrating. So I sit in my usual suburban spot and watch the morning unfold. As the light increases so does the birdsong, Robins and a Blackbird join the fray. Thoreau in his seminal work ‘Walden’ writes ;

“ Every morning was a cheerful invitation to make my life of equal simplicity, and I may say innocence, with Nature herself.”

This morning it is thus, aided by the lurgy to doubly enforce the stillness and the invitation, which perhaps is no bad thing. It’s actually quite difficult to put into words how beautiful it is to sit here and witness the morning. A real quiet pleasure. Not a huge amount to report really other than breathing in morning air, listening to rain and the soundtrack of the early morning. Enjoy your yours and lovely days people.
