Meeting Myself.

A calm campervan morning after a wee over night buffeting. In fact as I sit, it’s quite still, but for the occasional shimmer from the leaves above me. As Fleetwood Mac sung

“ Listen to the wind blow, watch the sun rise.”

Birds are yet to rise and the sounds are the leaves, some traffic and the early morning Cockerel. The cloud appears solid and heavy though not yet properly discernible. I can make out the first distant commuter train pull in and then out of the station. Witness the birds wake as they start to fill the air. Robin song and warning calls appear to be their early rise, as the light starts to take shape and colours emerge from the darkness. The shift from monochrome to colour. No roaring pinks or oranges, a coming of subdued colours, greys and murkiness, but sunrise all the same. A flock of Gulls pass overhead rendering all other sounds imperceptible as a multitude of cries penetrate everything.

A gift many years ago as a trainee counsellor by my supervisor was a book by the wonderful Jeanette Winterson ‘Oranges are not the only fruit ‘. A book I have mentioned many blogs ago, in fact probably more than once. Winterson wrote ;

“ I seem to have run in a great circle, and met myself again on the starting line.”

As I was looking back through previous journals and notes the quote suddenly resonated with me. At this moment I don’t know why. Whether it’s a reflection of journeys started and completed, both physical and emotional. The self that I meet at the start line, is that the same self, that started the journey ? Is that a sense of coming home to the self after your journey or experiences ? Pouring over past notes and journals and yet here I am back at the start line ? Food for thought this campervan morning. More prep today and growing excitement with travel to come. Lovely days people.

I have used this quote before.

“ There's a sunrise and a sunset every single day, and they're absolutely free. Don't miss so many of them.” Jo Walton.
