Blue from horizon to horizon this campervan morning. Not a cloud or contrail in the sky, still as still can be, nothing moving not even a whisper of wind, everything just hangs. It is to be fair, once more, a cool start to the day. A couple of robins flit around the lower branches of the oak, the birdsong is quite muted this morning. A lone magpie, a far off crow call and a few sparrows. Quieter than usual, though the flowers and bushes are alive with bees. Cars are busy, usual rumbles, though the planes are much quieter. Anticipation in the air this morning, final sort out and then the off. So grabbing a few moments quiet before tick list fever grabs me. In her book the ‘ Edge of Wonder ‘, Victoria Erickson writes :
“ Let’s not travel to tick things off lists, or collect half-hearted semi-treasures to be placed in dusty drawers in empty rooms. Rather, we’ll travel to find grounds and rooftops and tiny hidden parks, where we’ll sit and dismiss the passing time, spun in the city’s web, ‘til we’ve surrendered, content to be spent and consumed. I need to feel a place while I’m in it.”
So balancing the need for organisation and resisting once again, the fever of over organisation. Trying to bring that to the oncoming trip to, not to create a tick list of things to be seen and done, but places to be subsumed in, experienced and lived in and for a consummate tick lister, that’s a challenge to be over come. So lists and challenges, experiences and adventures this campervan morning. Time is short so lovely days people.
“ You can’t be caged in a pool for long. Not when you’re someone who wants oceans.” Victoria Erickson.
