Drama.

Greeted this morning by rain and all pervading dampness. Slushing through heavy wet oak leaves to reach the much diminished shelter of the oak. Light rain still falling, wind rushing through the oak sending cascades of droplets onto me and the already sodden floor. Nearby cars sloshing through puddles. Sounds of water in the darkness, running off trees, leaves and gutters. It’s much milder than it has been, much to my chagrin. Monday here already and the week about to kick off for some, so be gentle with yourself. As darkness clears, heavy dark grey cloud and continued rain means a much reduced natural soundscape. A few robin calls, some gulls in the air along with a call from some where of a crow. Dipping into some work around ‘Drama’, the fixation and need for it in some lives and if we don’t have it we create it to get an emotional ‘hit’ a dopamine shot. The fact that drama sells, drama on the television, drama in books, drama in social media, drama in the news. It sells. Apparently we crave it and we create it when we can’t get enough of it. Social media has been shaped to promote and sell drama. I think we have all met someone whose life appears to revolve around drama. There are suggestions that the emotional and physiological rewards we get from it are such that it becomes almost addictive. And so the research continues. I reflected on my telling of my journey home from drumming yesterday morning and how much ‘drama’ I put into a simple drive. It’s been interesting at looking at the structure of the telling in order to keep the listeners engagement. Early days as they say. So the week kicks off be good to yourself. Lovely days people.

“ What is drama but life with the dull bits cut out.” Alfred Hitchcock.
