Conversations

Another glorious British summers day continues apace this campervan morning. It’s lashing down, rain beating on the roof once more, cascading down windows, pooling on pathways and concrete outside. A drab grey morning light hangs in the air, the cloud thick and heavy sits above the van. There is no venturing outside, the oak stout and resolute is battered by the downpour, so hunkered down in the van a hostage to the rain. It’s just about impossible to make out other sounds other than that of the rain, a few nearby house sparrows, a single crow penetrates the tin drum that I am sitting in. They soon disappear as the intensity of the rain increases. Everyone else is just riding out the rain. The weekend is here after a funny week and sitting here amongst the rain reflecting on the drumming, the people worked with, challenges faced and learnings. A beautiful reconnection with a dear friend and conversations around contentment, and what it mean’t to each of us, the challenges we face and family. The openness and vulnerability that we were both able to go to. I do enjoy a good deep sharing, it challenges me emotionally and mentally. The opportunity to learn, rather than teach. I have mentioned this before in a previous offering that I sense the power of good conversation is dying and the examples set by some suggest it’s already dead and buried. The ability to be open, honest, true, empathic, compassionate and vulnerable when immersed in dialogue. Lovely days people.

“ The only thing that guarantees an open-ended collaboration among human beings, the only thing that guarantees that this project is truly open-ended, is a willingness to have our beliefs and behaviors modified by the power of conversation. “ Sam Harris.
