Conformity and Routine.

Bit of a chill in the air this campervan morning. A hint of suburban busyness. The rattle of car tyres on tarmac, and passing planes overhead lets me know exactly where I am. The buzz of a saw, the hammering of nails and the extraneous sounds of building also hang in the air this morning. A solitary crow in the ash, calls away with replies coming in from all around, a smattering of starlings sit high in the oak, minding their own business. The sky a hazy blue with thinning white clouds. The sounds of smaller unseen garden birds echoes around the trees. It’s Friyay, and the sense of the return to routine. Having been in a no routine situation over the last 10 weeks or so coming back to one is a wee bit strange, with a hint of constriction. The Sufi teacher Vilayat Inayat Khan said :

“ The human spirit lives on creativity and dies in conformity and routine.”

That has been sitting with me since the return and that sense of conforming and routine. The fact that I used to hide in conformity and routine. The safety it used to bring me and still does at times. The routine of these posts, I find quite liberating, the discipline of sitting where ever I am sharing thoughts and musings. The discipline it sometimes takes to be creative. The routines I have to put in place in order to free up time to be creative. So a sense of acknowledging the positive routines, the ones that limit and hold you back, the ability to see them both and encourage one and change the other. It feels a bit rambly this morning, my thoughts are just formulating, but seeing the positives in routines as well. s for creativity that’s where my world sits. Lovely days people.

“ Find your time when you’re the most productive and creative and build your routine around it.” Pooja Agnihotri.
