Choice.

A wee bit further north this campervan morning and into the drumming community’s spiritual home, which is Wiston. A chilly morning and greeted by a horde of crow calls who dominate the soundscape against the gentle calls of others and the staccato sounds of a lone woodpecker. The sky a rolling display of white on blue, the cirrus and cumulus clouds gliding away northwards. Sat in the doorway of the van watching the morning unfold beneath the shadow of the old 19th Century hunting lodge. A firm damp dew underfoot and the glorious Scottish chill. Freshness and nature from the van door. A day of walks and drumming yesterday leaves a nourished soul. An evening of connection, catch ups, experiences and learning, as always in this very special place. The power of connection, relationships and learning. Irvin Yalom writes that :

“ The spirit of man is constructed out of his choices “

My in the “ Here and now “ choices are of community, closeness and rhythms. Yesterday they were of isolation, nature and photography. The diverse elements of my character in the space of 24 hours. My own Yin and Yang. What I love about the pilgrimage to this place, other than the excuse to visit Scotland, and of learning is neatly summed up once more by my existentialist guru Mr Yalom.

“ To love means to be actively concerned for the life and the growth of another.”

The journey for the next few days is to experience other people’s growth and through them my own. A balance of Yin and Yang once more. So today is about choices, love, balance and drumming. Lovely days people.

“ …the more unlived your life, the greater your death anxiety. The more you fail to experience your life fully, the more you will fear death.” Irvin D. Yalom.
