Campervan Morning 1000.
Feels like autumnal mornings are here to stay. A blue sky with the slightest hint of a white haze and cross crossed with thinning dissipating contrails greets me this campervan morning. A chill air sits on my chest, the signs of breath on the cool air, steam rising from early morning coffee and the first signs of the morning sun touches the tops of the oak and the ash. Aeroplanes pass over head their underbellies sparkle as they catch the morning sunshine rays on the start of their journey. It’s busy, bursts of nearby traffic accompanied by the hum of the distant motorways. The birds are relatively quiet, the usual sounds of crow and magpie, the screech of a pair green parrots. A few starlings settle momentarily in the ash, only to swiftly make an exit. So here we at campervan morning one thousand.
A thousand mornings of weather reports, traffic conditions and the current state of play in nature wherever I happen to be, from suburban English gardens to Scottish forests, lochs and mountains, French vineyards, Italian lakes, mountains, towns and vineyards, German cities and English beach and countryside. A journey of travel, writing, photographs, sitting and stillness, listening and taking notice, as well as personal expression. It exists only here, until as Alberto Manguel writes ;
“ The existence of the text is a silent existence, silent until the moment in which a reader reads it. Only when the able eye makes contact with the markings on the tablet does the text come to active life. All writing depends on the generosity of the reader. “
So anything I place here depends on your able eye to make these mornings come alive. I am forever grateful for the generosity of those that read these meanderings. Rubin talks of creation being part of the expression :
“ Who we are and where we are on our journey “.
Anais Nin one of my favourite diarists writes that :
“We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”
When I first sat down in the garden mid pandemic in 2020 and began writing these, to support some of my clients in their journeys I had no idea I would still be here and still going. I have been accompanied by many writers and many books too numerous to mention and hopefully some of these diatribes have piqued your interest in an author or book or three. And hopefully as Rubin writes once more :
“ Your self expression allows the audience to have their own self expression “.
If you're really bored one day, the last 250 CVM's can be found at www.campervanmornings.com as well as a selection of pictures, plus finally finished the vlog of the first part of the trek and that will be up later today.
Where to next, who knows. Lovely days people and thank you.
“ Of all the ways of acquiring books, writing them oneself is regarded as the most praiseworthy method “. Walter Benjamin.
