Accepting Self Doubt.

Damp this campervan morning, the nostrils full of the heavy smell of wet grass and damp soil, the name of which is apparently petrichor. Overnight rain remains sitting everywhere. Puddles, pavement and grass all saturated. A breeze shakes droplets from the oak and surrounding bushes and fills the air with the sound of shimmering and rustling, which is apparently called psithurism, who knew ! The sky a hazy blue with clouds rushing overhead this morning. The birds are busy, sounds of pigeons, a few crows and house sparrows. Once again unseen planes sit in the background, slushing car tyres on passing nearby cars. Occasional glimpses of the sun, but quickly obscured by the fast paced clouds skidding across the sky. The wind, varying light and smaller creating a sense of unpredictability in the air this morning. The weather fluctuate in the blink of an eye. Temporary warmth, replaced by wind and the threat of rain. Settling back into the home life once more, whilst trying not to settle into stagnant routines that give nothing. I mentioned whilst away in the trek that I was making my way through Rick Rubin’s lovely book called ‘ The Creative Act ‘. Thoughts around ourselves and the act of creativity, what helps it flourish and what kills it stone dead. He talks of submerging yourself in great works, whatever your medium is. The deepening of our connection to nature :

“ Will serve our spirit and what serves our spirit invariably serves our artistic output “

And the fact that as Rubin’s says, creativity is a discussion between all the aspects of the self.

“ You are in constant dialogue with what is and what was “.

Interesting to return to being under the oak tree and able to explore the last few days rather than be caught up in the rush to plan, organise and travel. Another self care Sunday so make sure you do something for yourself today. Lovely days people.

“ By accepting self doubt rather than trying to eliminate it or repress it, we lessen its energy and interference “.

Rick Rubin.
